Serin, Arenas Elected to PESD Board Leadership Positions

2015 officers to continue tradition of school and district achievement and excellence

January 8, 2015 - Susan Serin and Jose Arenas were elected as Pendergast District president and vice-president respectively at the governing board meeting held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015. Susan, the former PESD board vice-president, stepped into the role as president with twenty-four years of experience as a PESD board member and active community advocate.

Ms. Serin has worked for Farmers Insurance Company for 22 years, serving as an underwriter and trainer in the workers’ compensation department. Mr. Arenas is the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources for the Phoenix Union High School District.  Both Serin and Arenas have devoted countless years as educational and community advocates serving both the Pendergast District and other community organizations.

Dr. Lily Matos DeBlieux was chosen by the board in May 2014 as the new superintendent of the PESD. She shares her thoughts about the new leadership team. “As in any premier governance organization, we are fortunate to have an educational team of leaders on our board who are dedicated to ensuring our 10,000 students have the best educational experience possible. We are grateful to Martin Quezada for his leadership the past year as Board President and look forward to another collaborative year with Susan Serin and Jose Arenas at the helm. The entire board is an exemplary model of how school boards should work together for the benefit of the students, staff, families and the communities they serve.”
