Dear Staff,

October is National Principals Month and recognizes the essential role that principals play in making a school GREAT.

Our Principals here in Pendergast are among the hardest working individuals. They set the academic tone for their schools, and it is their vision, dedication and determination that provides the guiding force for achieving student success.

In honor of National Principals Month October 2017, I would like to recognize the contributions of our Pendergast Principals and express my gratitude for their commitment to ensuring that every child has access to a high-quality education. Thank you for all that you do!

Here are some ideas for celebrating that not only shows appreciation for the Principal, but also helps strengthen your school and community.

Thank you to all of the schools, departments and community partners who helped make the Pendergast Sock Drive a HUGE success! 8,316 pairs of socks were collected and will be sent this week to the students in the Houston Independent School District.

If you still have socks that did not get collected, please donate them to the new collections at your sites for the Hurricane Maria storm victims in Puerto Rico. We truly appreciate everyone's generosity during these great times of need.

I am here to serve you. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

We truly appreciate your support for the students in the Houston Independent School District affected by Hurricane Harvey. Ms. Bachner from Amberea and Ms. Wheeler from Desert Horizon have teamed up to do a collection for those affected in Puerto Rico by Hurricane Maria as well!

Please share the share the flyers below with your school and spread the message that these donations are now being collected for anyone interested in helping.

For any questions, please contact Sabine Bachner and Maria Wheeler

Thank you for your continued support!

Exceptional Student Services

The Pendergast Elementary School district is proud to offer Preschool screening services as part of our commitment to AzFIND (Child Find). Child Find is a component of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA ’04) that requires Public Education Agencies (PEA) to locate, identify, and evaluate all children with disabilities, aged birth through 21, located within their geographical boundaries who are in need of early intervention or special education services. As part of that service, PESD offers regular screenings for children ages 2 years, 9 months, to 5 years (prior to Kindergarten enrollment).

District offices will be on a 4/10 work week during the Fall Break. Offices will be closed on Friday, October 20, 2017.

Based upon information provided by the Educational Services department, all schools achieved their school improvement goals and will be paid the second half of the Classroom Site Fund (Prop 301) Performance Pay plan for the 2016-2017 school year. The amount per teacher FTE is $1,175 and will be paid on October 13th.

Note: As a reminder, this payment is based upon performance last school year (2016-2017) and therefore, the payment will be made to teachers who were employed with our district last school year (2016-2017) only.

As you may know, the district is working with ESI to secure substitute/guest teachers. Laura Stockmar in HR is still the district liaison for guest teachers and with ESI. As we coordinate with this outside company, it is important that teachers do not contact guest teachers directly when needing coverage for an absence. To secure the services of a preferred guest teacher, work directly with your school administrator or school secretary.
