Dear Staff,

I hope that each of you spent time with loved ones and had plenty of laughter. It is so hard to bee-lieve that December is right around the corner! Although Winter Recess begins on December 22, there is still so much happening around the district.

I Love Public Education

The AASA I Love Public Education Photo Contest is officially underway. Students, teachers, administrators, parents and community members of all ages are invited to enter the photo contest for a chance to win up to $1,000 at lovepubliceducation.org.

This Holiday Season, over 300 students in the Pendergast District are in need of our support.  The Arenas Family and the Pendergast Foundation are once again teaming up for the 2nd Annual Holiday Toy Drive.

Now through December 8th, Santa Bee Tags are available at the district office for you to BEELIEVE in a student!  These tags are similar to the Christmas Angel program we are all familiar with at the malls.

Each Santa Bee tag lists 1 student with 1 wish and 1 need.  Unwrapped donations are to be returned with the tag to the district office by December 8th.

If you are interested in a tag or 2 or if your entire team would like to adopt a family, please stop by the district office to choose your own tags, or we are happy to select the tags for you and place in interoffice mail!

We are also accepting donations of hygiene products and blankets for 100 family baskets, as well as, wrapping paper.

Please contact Kerry or Regina at 623-772-2200 with any questions or concerns.

I am here to serve you. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

Payroll

INSTRUCTIONAL IMPROVEMENT FUND PAY

Eligible teachers will be paid this additional one-time payment on their paycheck dated December 8th.  An eligible teacher is one who taught at an Arizona school district or charter school during the 2016-2017 school year and is currently teaching in PESD this school year.  The amount per eligible teacher is based upon the instructional salaries earned last school year 2016-2017.

Risk Management

Safety Tips:

With the Holiday's just around the corner please remember these safety tips for your classroom.

Holiday Lights:

Holiday lights are not permitted in the classroom. We often find these strung from ceiling tile grids, thumb tacked to bulletin boards or suspended across a room. Damaged insulation and excessive stress on wires can cause electric faults and fires.

Classroom Decorations:

Personalizing classrooms is a long time tradition in most schools, but maintaining a safe learning environment should not be compromised. Paper decorations and student artwork should be limited to 20% or less of the wall area and should never cover exit signs or exit doorways. Use flame retardant decorations whenever possible.

Decorations and plants should not be suspended from the ceiling or ceiling tile grid. In some cases these may fall during an emergency and delay exit access. Equally important, students and staff often climb on chairs and tables creating a serious fall exposure. Decorations and plants should be mounted within reach of the floor for easy and safe access. Never hang anything from fire sprinkler heads!
