First-Ever District Run EPICS Olympiad!

Pendergast became a front-runner in ASU's EPICS program by offering the first-ever district run EPICS Olympiad! Approximately 200 students participated in the event. This was the largest event from a single district in EPICS history. In the Olympiad, students worked as engineers in a simulation, meeting with a community stakeholder to solve a real life problem. The real life scenario for this Olympiad was a wheelchair-bound citizen needing a dog trained to help facilitate daily living. Students worked with different scenarios to design prototypes that would help best train a dog to serve this citizen. Students collaborated and worked with twenty community member volunteers who served at the event. Parents and Educational Services Team Members served as the wheelchair-bound citizen, providing feedback to  the students on their design. Students' designs were innovative and pragmatic. Pendergast is very proud of our students’ resulting designs. We are already looking towards next year's event! ABSENCE MANAGEMENT FORMALLY AESOP

As you may know, the district is working with ESI to secure substitute/guest teachers. Laura Stockmar in HR is still the district liaison for guest teachers and with ESI. As we coordinate with this outside company, it is important that teachers do not contact guest teachers directly when needing coverage for an absence. To secure the services of a preferred guest teacher, work directly with your school administrator or school secretary.
