Picture of kindergarteners on the first day of school

Dear Staff,

What an amazing and BEE-utiful first two days of school! It was a pleasure to spend time with new and returning students and staff. Visiting sites is my favorite part of the day because I get to experience first-hand the excellent education we are providing for our students.

Don't forget to wear our new 2018-2019 Pendergast "Beelievers - One Team, One Dream" staff shirts each Friday demonstrating that we stand united as a district that BEE-LIEVES in our students.

Remember, one lucky employee with perfect attendance will win something spectacular! It might be an amazing getaway, a car, who knows, but you must be here every day to be eligible.

Effective August 17th, pending Board Approval, our Chief Academic Officer, Ms. Dora Barrio will be retiring. She has been instrumental in the growth we have had over the past four years and will be greatly missed. The good news is she will work with us as a consultant on a part-time basis for the 2018-2019 school year.

"Retirement only means that it is time for a new adventure."

I am here to serve you. Please let me know if I can be of any assistance.

I BEE-lieve in you!

Picture of the Escape BusThe 8th Grade Superintendent’s Student Council members build a strong connection to the schools and the District. Composed of two to three students per campus, the SCC strives to be influential leaders in their school and to play an integral role in spreading positive messages about Pendergast throughout the community. This is achieved by building relationships with our community partners. The goals of the group are to prepare for the future and learn more about opportunities available beyond high school.

Members participate in a variety of service projects including the annual toy drive, color fun run and Love Our Schools Day. The council also sew over 1000 pillows with a pocket to hold a book to give to every kindergartener at the end of the school year for the Pillows for Kiddos project. The service projects and leadership experiences build up to the year end trip to Stanford University in the Spring.

ESCAPE THE BUS - New for the 2018-19 School Year

“It’s the early 1900s and its time to go to school. You and your school chums would rather be at the swimming hole or fishing or anything else but be in school. The teacher is a strict old bird. She doesn't allow for any messing around. When she takes her morning break under the willow tree you and your buddies figure it’s the perfect time to sneak out but she's got a bell on the door and will hear if you open it. You and your mates have to find another way out before she returns in 45 minutes or you will be stuck here all day doing school work.”

When Dr. Matos DeBlieux had a bright idea to recycle a retired bus with an innovative notion. Why not transform the bus and create the Pendergast Puzzle Escape Room Bus for students and adults to enjoy?

Picture of a pair of jeansThe puzzle is based on a one room schoolhouse that has undergone a complete exterior and interior transformation. With faux brick walls, wood floors, antique design and authentic props, it is sure to spark conversation around the dinner table with grandparents who just may have memories of learning in this environment. As students and their teachers enter, they will be given a perplexing scenario.

You can find out more information about the Pendergast Puzzle Bus, including how you can reserve it for your class (grades 3 through 8), by contacting Jim Gradillas at or by calling 623-772-2292.

The payment will be included in with your September 11, 2018 paycheck.
