Bus Route Procedures

The District Governing Board authorizes the administration to provide regular school transportation to and from school for the following categories.

  • Students with disabilities who require transportation, as indicated in their respective individual education plan.
  • Students living within a one-mile radius of the school where hazardous or difficult routes exist and where other arrangements cannot be provided.
  • Students who are residents within a school attendance area and who live more than one mile from school.
  • Persons not connected with the District will not be permitted to ride school buses unless permission has been granted by the Superintendent.

Bus routes and stops are approved by the Transportation Director. Routes and stops are established using the following criteria.

  • Stops shall be placed in areas serving only students who qualify for transportation services.
  • Stops shall be placed in a reasonably safe location. Safe stop criteria considerations may include:
    • Major arterials.
    • A safe walk path parallel to the road.
    • Water hazards.
    • Residences that house persons convicted of crimes against children.
  • Drivers are not permitted to alter their bus route, or make changes to stop locations except in cases of emergency, road construction, inclement weather, or as directed by a police officer.
  • Kindergarten students shall not be released at a bus stop of school unless a responsible adult is present or an older sibling rides the bus with the child.
  • Convenience stops are not permitted unless the driver receives approval from the dispatch desk.
Problems associated with a bus stop or route should be reported to the Transportation Director.
