Curriculum Integration Specialist

Job Description - 2005

The Curriculum Integration Specialist provides leadership for the integration of technology in the PESD educational community. Embedding technology within the curriculum is the primary focus of this position. Acting as an agent of change, the CIS facilitates the implementation of new technology and the development of skills. Effective communication and collaboration are essential in this process. Through continual assessment, the Curriculum Integration Specialist is instrumental in planning for technology growth. These processes will transform the delivery of instruction and expand learning opportunities.

The role of the CIS addresses five areas:

•  Embedded Professional Development/Collaboration

•  Providing Resources

•  Building Capacity and Leadership

•  Operational Stewardship

•  Technical Support

1. Embedded Professional Development/Collaboration

  1. Co-plan with teachers
  2. Co-teach with teachers
  3. Model lesson
  4. Provide in-class support
  5. Collaborate at grade-level meetings
  6. Provide informal "just in time" sessions (prep time, lunch time, before/after school)
  7. Work with student groups
  8. Team with Library Media Specialist to collaborate with teachers

2. Providing Resources

  1. Finding learning resources for student research/projects (i.e. websites, webquests)
  2. Creating learning resources for student research/projects (i.e. launch page, webpage, webquest)
  3. Finding learning resources for teacher professional development
  4. Creating learning resources for teacher professional development
  5. Finding/creating scaffolding for student research/projects (i.e. organizers, worksheets)
  6. Support use of databases that support data-driven instruction

3. Building Capacity and Leadership

•  Assess Technology Skills of students and teachers

•  Plan technology-related professional development to meet campus needs

•  Coordinate technology related professional development on site

•  Lead workshops

•  Co-lead workshops

•  Facilitate teacher led workshops

•  Present and/or share at faculty meetings

4. Operational Stewardship

  1. Work with administrators and others to create and maintain the site technology vision
  2. Facilitate uses of Operational Resources (i.e. scheduling labs, setting up equipment, maintaining inventories of specialized equipment)
  3. Implement/monitor AUP processes

5. Technical Support

  1. Trouble shooting hardware
  2. Trouble shooting software
  3. Trouble shooting login
  4. Trouble shooting network issues
  5. Trouble shooting database Issues (SRI, STAR, AR*)
  6. Trouble shooting assessment and data deliver tools (INFORM & Scantron)
