COVID-19 CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENT

Pendergast Family Resource Center sites are currently closed for the safety of families and staff. PFRC staff is available to support families with referrals to community resources. Please complete the "Online Referral Request Form" and a staff member will follow up. Virtual activities and classes are also available to families with young children. Please see our Virtual Activity Calendar for more information. Virtual classes and workshops require advance registration.

The Pendergast Elementary School District, througha partnership with First Thing First, have developed the Pendergast Family Resource Center providing quality, comprehensive, diverse and streamlined serivces centered on a holistic view of early childhood education with neighborhood outreach as a core component. The services offered create a unique collaboration between the educational environment, families and communities combined with staffing support from caring, knowledgeable professionals. Pendergast Family Resource Center is here to help you find community resources and information. All services provided by the Pendergast Family Resource Center are offered at no cost.

Story Time & Activities

Connect with other families by joining us for a virtual Story Time.  Hear a new story, sing songs, learn new finger plays, and learn about extension activities to support school readiness through arts and crafts.   Complete the registration form, and we'll email a Zoom link the week of the class.  Be ready to have fun all while building early literacy skills.  We encourage you to share this activity with your child.  Registration is required.

 

Mini Music Makers virtual class facilitated by Katie Palmer from The Phoenix Museum of Musical Instruments - Tuesday, March 30, 11:00 - 11:30am
Introduce your child to the wonderful world of music through MIM’s early childhood music and movement courses. Explore music from around the globe while singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Motor, pre-language, and musical skills are developed simultaneously, while children and caregivers actively participate in the music making.

 

Music & Movement
Connect with other families, move to fun songs, learn about colors and numbers by joining us to Music & Movement.  Complete the registration form, and we’ll email a Zoom link to you the week of the class.  Be sure to dress comfortably so you can move and groove to the music!  Space is limited and registration is required.

Zoom Yoga - Thursday, April 22,  10:30 - 11:00am - Click Here to Register
Join us to learn some basic Yoga moves to do with your children. Yoga is a great way to help children deal with stressful moments by connecting them to calming experiences. We want this class to remain small so everyone can see each other and have a chance to connect. Please complete the registration form, and we'll email a Zoom link the week of the class. Be sure to dress comfortable.  We encourage you to share this activity with your child.  Space is limited and registration is required.

 

Phoenix Zoo is bringing a virtual class to our families, “Animal Artwork” on Thursday, April 8 from 10:30 - 11:00am. This class is geared for 2 - 5 year olds, and needs an adult to support with technology.  (Limited to 20 children) - Click Here to Register
Come join the Zoo Educator as we give our animal ambassadors the opportunity to paint whatever their heart desires. Once they finish creating their masterpiece, you will be sent a small piece of their work! What would a snake paint? How about an armadillo? Wait, how do they paint?

 

AZ Science Center Virtual Preschool Science on Wheels Class - “Dino-mite!”, Tuesday, April 13, 10:30 - 11:30am (3- 5 year olds only & their adult) - Click Here to Register
Explore paleontology as you transform into a dinosaur detective! Study Arizonan fossils, excavate dinosaur eggs and investigate the fossil inside. This virtual class facilitated by the AZ Science Center staff requires a materials kit that will need to be picked up at the Pendergast Community Center the day before the class.  A PFRC staff member will contact you with details following registration.  Limited to 20 participants.  Children must be 3 - 5 years old to participate, and an adult must be available to support them with hands-on activities.

 

PFRC Family Literacy Night - Theme:  “ROAR Into Reading” - Thursday, April 15, 5:00 - 6:30pm - Click Here to Register
Join our second virtual Family Literacy Night to celebrate the joy of literacy with your whole family!  Children aged birth through five (and not in Kindergarten) will receive a dinosaur book bag on Monday, April 12 with books and materials to use during the evening.  This will be a drive-through distribution at the Pendergast Community Center.  There will be fun dinosaur themed activities, music, games, and even a home scavenger hunt to start out the evening.  Don’t miss this event.  In order to keep this a fun, engaging night for all participants, registrations will be limited to 30 families. Once registered, a PFRC team member will contact families with additional details.

 

AZ Science Center Virtual Preschool Science on Wheels Class - “Please Don’t Stop the Music”, Friday, April 23, 10:30 - 11:30am (3- 5 year olds only & their adult) Click Here to Register
There's a science-and-math reason why that one song won't get out of your head. Learn more about rhythm and tempo. Students will make their very own instruments and write their own music using a xylophone! ReadyRosie Parent Workshop, “Ready for Kindergarten”   Friday, April 30, 10:00 - 11:00am -  Click Here to Register
Starting kindergarten is an exciting time for children and families. In this workshop families explore what it means to be “ready” for kindergarten. Experiential activities, videos, and discussions give families the tools they need to support foundational language skills, mathematical thinking, social emotional learning, and healthy routines so families and children are confident and ready for their new school adventure. Participants will:
