Guest Teacher Information

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Guest Teacher (substitute) in the Pendergast School District. The first step in becoming a Guest Teacher is to obtain a substitute certificate or hold a current teaching certificate. All certificates must be issued by the Arizona Department of Education.

Pendergast Elementary School District is contracted through Educational Services, Inc. (ESI) to provide guest teachers (substitute) for our twelve schools. To submit a substitute teacher application please click on the following link: https://educationalservicesinc.com/.

The Department of Education will issue a Substitute Certificate to individuals who have a bachelor's degree in any area and have obtained a Fingerprint Clearance Card.

HOW DO I APPLY FOR A CERTIFICATE?

To apply for a Substitute Certificate, you will need to complete and submit the following items to the Arizona Department of Education:

  1. Application for Certification
  2. Fingerprint Clearance Card
  3. Official Transcripts

HOW DO I OBTAIN AN APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATION?

Contact the Arizona Department of Education at (602) 542-4367 or visit their website at www.ade.az.gov/certification. The Arizona Department of Education is located at 1535 W. Jefferson, Phoenix, AZ.

HOW DO I OBTAIN A FINGERPRINT CLEARANCE CARD?

Contact the Department of Public Safety (DPS) at (602) 223-2279. Fingerprint clearance takes six (6) to twelve (12) weeks.

ONCE I HAVE MY CERTIFICATE, HOW MANY DAYS CAN I WORK AS A GUEST TEACHER?

A substitute certificate allows you to substitute teach a maximum of 120 days per school per school year. Your certificate will be valid for six (6) years.

Note: There is no teaching limit placed on any valid K-12 Arizona teaching certificate.

WHAT WILL I EARN AS A GUEST TEACHER?

1-30 days: Grades K-6 at $116 per day, Grades 7-8 at $121 per day

31+ days: Grades K-6 at $121 per day, Grades 7-8 at $126 per day
