Safe Return to School Governing Board Presentation >>

Important Message from the Superintendent

Dear Pendergast families,

With the COVID-19 cases in our state at the substantial level, it is crucial that we follow the metrics set forth by the Arizona Department of Education, the Arizona Department of Health Services and Maricopa County Health Department because the safety of our students, families and staff is of the utmost importance to all of us in Pendergast District. Governor Ducey has left the decision to open schools for in person learning up to each district governing board and administration. Although there is nothing more we would like than to reopen our schools, due to the high numbers of COVID-19 cases in our zip codes and in the state, schools will remain virtual only until further notice.

Our teachers and administrators have done an amazing job providing exceptional instruction virtually, using the latest tools and technology, and have connected with each student and family. We are so proud of their work and commend our students for staying on task and being focused learners.

We will be carefully following the metrics provided by the Arizona and Maricopa Departments of Health Services, using them as guide for the benchmarks we must adhere to in order to safely open. They can be found at this link. At this point in time, the risk by the County Health Department has been deemed as significant, and all learning will take place virtually. We carefully follow these guidelines so we can be consistent and up to date, so we can make the right decision for your children and our staff. Thankfully, the county and state have begun to issue COVID-19 vaccines and you can locate current information here.

We are here to serve you and we urge you to reach out to your child’s teacher, principal or school counselor with questions or concerns. We have a wide range of services and resources available to you and we want to be sure you are safe and healthy.

Please remember, we are Pendergast, the district that believes in you.

I hope you all are staying safe and well. I wanted to take this opportunity to provide clarity on school re-opening plans so as to avoid any confusion on an in-person start date.

As a reminder, school is occurring virtually for all Pendergast students until further notice. When we do feel it is safe to reopen for in-person learning, you will be notified well in advance.

We are here to offer help and support to you during these unprecedented times. Please stay connected to us through your child’s school, our district website, where we have posted current information on COVID-19, as well as instructional resources for families, our governing board meetings and social media.

We will continue to keep you updated.  Thank you for being part of the Pendergast family where we believe in you.

A Message from the Pendergast Superintendent

Dear Pendergast Families:

The health, safety and well-being of our students, families, staff  and communities is a priority for everyone in Pendergast District. With the ever-changing landscape of COVID-19 in our state, we know that you are all awaiting information about reopening plans. For the past few weeks, the staff has engaged stakeholders and experts representing parents, teachers, administrators, support staff and community partners in Task Forces focused on a Safe Return to Pendergast for the 2020-21 school year.

The Task Forces covered important areas for reopening in depth and used information and models from the Centers for Disease Control, the Trust, Arizona Department of Education and others to bring forth research-based information to incorporate into the plan. Surveys were created and sent to staff and families seeking their input on questions regarding the safe reopening of schools. Results were carefully reviewed and taken into consolidation as part of the planning process.

Governor Ducey has declared through an Executive Order that schools will delay the start of in-person classes for the school year until August 17th or until further notice, however, online learning is permissible and encouraged. For all Pendergast students, school will begin on Wednesday, August 5, through online Distance Learning.

A comprehensive reopening plan for Distance Learning is in place and was adopted at the Pendergast District Zoom Governing Board Meeting on Tuesday, June 30th. Additional information will be shared on the PESD website and on social media.

We will follow up directly with families and staff to share the information  presented and ensure families and students have what they need to be prepared to learn virtually.  We continue to carefully monitor COVID-19 in Arizona and seek guidance from the Governor’s Office and other agencies as the situation changes.

We hope you are enjoying your summer break and staying safe and healthy. We look forward to communicating with you in the coming weeks and seeing your students online on August 5th.
