Meet the Calderwood Staff

Ms. Perhamus is the Principal of Calderwood while also serving as the District Director of Safe Schools and Alternative Education. After three years as the Assistant Principal at Westwind Intermediate School she moved to Calderwood where she focuses on creating positive learning environments for all children. Ms. Perhamus has been working in the public school system for 16 years with a focus on students with high needs. She earned her Bachelor's Degree from Manhattan College and her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from ASU West. Her hobbies and interests include traveling, playing volleyball, and multi-culturalism.
Mr. Heredia is currently the Dean of Students for Calderwood Elementary. He joined the Pendergast Elementary School District in July 2007. Prior to joining Pendergast, Mr. Heredia was the Director for Blueprint Education's West Campus Alternative Elementary Program as well as Hope High School. He began his work with children at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix.Prior to entering educational administration, Mr. Heredia was a teacher, guidance counselor, and prevention specialist. He graduated in 1996 from Arizona State University West with a Bachelor of Social Work. In 2004 he went on to receive his Master of Arts in Education, specializing in Educational Counseling from the University of Phoenix and is currently pursuing his Master of Arts in Education specializating in Administration and Supervision.
Virginia Holt is the School Secretary for Calderwood Elementary School and the Safe Schools Department . Gina is a native Arizonan, born in Flagstaff. She grew up and lived in Cottonwood from 1960-2003. From 1983 to 2003 she worked at Mingus High School. After moving to Phoenix in 2003 she worked for the Madison School Dist from 8/2003 to 4/2005 before coming to the Pendergast District in 2005. She has two daughters and three grandchildren.
Evelyn Guzman is the Office Assistant II for Calderwood Elementary School and the Safe Schools Department. Evelyn joined the Pendergast Team in 2006. She comes to us with a wealth of experience in working with families, with background from CASA (Center Against Sexual Assault) and Pierson Immigration Hotline. She supports Calderwood families with translation, guidance with outside services and parenting classes.

Jamie Moran, LMSW, is the Calderwood Elementary School Social Worker. Miss Jamie works with students to develop the life skills needed to be successful in school and in life. Miss Jamie earned her Bachelors degree in Social work from Kansas State University and her Masters degree in Social Work from Arizona State University West. Miss Jamie is in her second year as a member of the Calderwood Team. She brings thirteen years of experience in working with youth and families.

Mr. Newberg is the 8th Grade Social Skills teacher at Calderwood. He began teaching at Calderwood in February 2004 after 10 successful years as a science teacher at Westwind Intermediate School. Mr. Newberg began working with children through a variety of coaching and parks and rec. activities. He earned his Bachelor's Degree from Arizona State University. He is currently working on his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership. Mr. Newberg was nominated by a Calderwood student for the KNIX Teacher of the Year, an award he was honored with in 2005. When not working with his Calderwood students, he enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. He also gives his time as a foster parent for children in need.
Mike Larson is an honest-to-goodness Arizona native. He's felt very privileged to be an educator in the Pendergast ESD for over ten years. He is married to the beautiful Linda Clark of Culver City, California; and they are the proud parents of three handsome boys and one lovely little girl. He is a graduate of Arizona State University. Besides teaching, Mike's other interests include: Hiking/camping, baseball, scuba diving, trying to be a farmer in his backyard, and is attempting to author several books. He counts it a great privilege to work with the staff, students, and parents of Calderwood in the Pendergast ESD.
Mr. MItteness is currently the 6th/7th Grade Social Skills Teacher at Calderwood. Previous to joining the Calderwood Team, Mr. Mitteness taught 5th Grade at Westwind Intermediate in the Pendergast District for five years. Mr. Mitteness graduated from Bethel College in St. Paul, Minnesota in 2001. Currently he is pursuing his Master's Degree in Educational Technology from Arizona State University-West. He and his wife Laura, also a teacher in the Pendergast District, have been married since July 2005.
Ms. Miracle is the 4th/5th Grade Social Skills teacher at Calderwood. Ms. Miracle earned her Special Education degree from ASU West in 2007. As the newest member of the Calderwood team, she brings a variety of skills and talents including experience as a professional musician. Ms. Miracle is the proud mother of two. She enjoys traveling and performing as a singer and bass player.
