Canyon Breeze teachers utilize the Balanced Literacy approach to reading instruction. The Balanced Literacy approach is based on student-centered teaching and learning. The Literacy Learning model consists of the four key elements of the Teaching and Learning Cycle: Assessment, Evaluation, Planning, and Instruction. The small groups are driven by the needs of the learners. The goal of the reading program is for students to become confident, accomplished readers, and writers, and enthusiastic, independent, life-long learners. Canyon Breeze has two specialists who assist teachers with the Balanced Literacy approach.
