Counceling

Our school provides a full time couselor on site. Students are able to meet with Mr. Thogersen by self appointment, teacher referral, and parent referral. Mr. Thogersen provides counseling in numerous concentrations: bullying, anger management, and family situations.

Cummings Community Center

KOur school houses the main office for Cummings Community Center since it was originated at our school. Cummings is located at the south side of our school campus and provides services for students and families. This facility provides students with a place to stay after school while parents work. Additionally, Cummings assists families who are in need, providing them with clothes, furniture, and other necessities. Not only does Cummings have services at Desert Horizon Elementary, but also at other schools in the district. Head Start

Our Head Start program is offered to kids under the age of five who will going into kindergarten the following year. Head Start is a great opportunity for any families wanting their son or daughter to begin learning letter sounds, numbers, socializing, teamwork, and many other areas. Breakfast Program

Students at Desert Horizon Elementary are provided with breakfast every morning they attend school. We are currently in our third year of implementation of the classroom breakfast program. Students have the option of either drinking milk or juice and having a range of many dry food items such as: bagels, cereal, granola bars, string cheese, graham crackers, and doughnuts.

After School Tutoring

Every semester we have an after school tutoring program where students receive additional services in reading, writing, and math. The program targets specific students based on data, who have the capable to grow exponentially. All teachers are certified staff members who specialize in certain content areas. Our after school tutoring program is offered for students ranging from first to eighth.

Extra Curricular Activities

Desert Horizon also offers a variety of other before and after school programs students have the ability to join. The vast list of extra curricular activities include: intramurals, student council, NJHS, critter club, math club, art club, and news team.
