Pendergast Teacher Finalist for the 2022 Arizona Teacher of the Year Award
The Arizona Educational Foundation (AEF) named John Carlo Tulinao, 1st grade teacher at Amberlea Elementary School in the Pendergast District, as one of the ten candidates under consideration for the 2022 Arizona Teacher of the Year Award.
According to Kim Graham from the Arizona Educational Foundation, “the AEF’s annual Teacher of the Year program is the highest honor bestowed upon Arizona’s public school teachers. The annual Teacher of the Year program is the premier event of the Arizona Educational Foundation. The Teacher of the Year Awards ceremony is considered the “Oscar Awards” of teaching, the educator ultimately selected as Arizona Teacher of the Year becomes our state’s candidate for National Teacher of the Year.”
John Carlo, a University of Miami graduate student pursuing his doctorate in applied learning sciences, recently earned a National Science Teaching Association award for his success in connecting with students in the classroom through exemplary teaching. He began working at Amberlea Elementary School in 2017 and has since then impacted many students’ lives through his dedication to providing all students the exemplary education that they deserve. John Carlo is known by others as an “exceptionally nice, good-humored, and friendly person who is passionate about education.” His approach to teaching science, technology, engineering, arts, and math concepts are unique, as he implements the use of musical instruments from countries and cultures around the world. Students in his classroom appreciate his approach to education and truly enjoy the learning experiences that they get to be a part of.
According to Marisa Barrio, Principal at Amberlea Elementary School, “John Carlo is an outstanding educator who is passionate and dedicated to seeing all students achieve success. He is dedicated to impacting children’s lives and consistently goes above and beyond to provide students exceptional learning experiences. We are honored to have him as part of the Amberlea family. I sincerely hope that John Carlo gets the recognition that he deserves and becomes the recipient of the 2022 Arizona Teacher of the Year Award.”

There is no stronger advocate for meeting the needs of all children than Mr. Tulinao. He has become a pillar to the Amberlea community and a role model to the Pendergast team.
